How the scores work

Four fundamental scores for every company we rate, built from reported financials with a method we publish. They describe where a business stands today. They do not predict where its share price goes next.

Valuation

Is it cheap or expensive next to its peers?

P/E, P/B, P/S, EV/EBITDA, free cash flow yield

Quality

Is it a durable, well-run business?

Return on equity and capital, margins, accruals

Growth

Is it growing, and steadily?

Revenue, EPS and cash flow growth, consistency

Health

Could it get through a downturn?

Debt, interest coverage, liquidity, Altman Z-score

Each pillar runs from 0 to 100, with 50 as the median by construction. Momentum is tracked on its own as a price-action Buy, Hold or Sell signal and is not part of the four.

What a score tells you

  • How a company’s reported financials compare with its peers, one pillar at a time.
  • Where to look first: a way to shortlist names that deserve a closer read.
  • Which inputs drive each number, all listed on the methodology page.

What a score does not

  • Predict price moves or returns. A score describes today’s fundamentals.
  • Capture management, moats or news. Only reported numbers go in.
  • Come with a performance record. We make no claim about how the scores have performed.
